DEANNA FLOE
Summer 2013
Summer 2013
This summer Deanna Floe had the amazing opportunity to do missions through teaching in the Southeast Asian country of Cambodia. Deanna (and the rest of her 10 person team) spent 4 weeks in the capitol city of Phnom Penh teaching music at an international school, teaching English at a Cambodian school, and leading games for the VBS the international school hosted. She worked with students of all backgrounds and economic levels. The schools she taught at were run by Christian organizations so she was able to freely share the gospel with her students, most of which came from Buddhist families.

“It was hot, hard work, and absolutely amazing. I did not want to come home,” is the general response she gives to anyone who asks about her trip.
In addition to teaching, Deanna had opportunities to explore the country’s history and culture. “I’ve had a strong connection to Cambodia for almost 5 years now. The Lord has really given me a love for the Khmer people and I am so very blessed to have gotten a chance to go.” Deanna plans to make many return trips to the city that captured her heart.

McKENZIE STEINER

McKenzie loves to sing and perform! Early in the New Year she entertained the residents at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska. On February 24, 2013 McKenzie performed at the Mikaelah Molifua Soup Supper and Fund Raiser. Mikaelah in her senior year at North Star High School in Lincoln was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer. McKenzie dedicated one of her songs, "There's A Hero" by Billy Gillman to all of the "Heroes" that were present and that gave of their time and donations to help make the event so successful for Mikaelah and her family. Upon the conclusion of the luncheon McKenzie was asked to join Mikaelah and her family on stage to sing and end the ceremony. McKenzie dedicated "That's What Faith Can Do" by Kutless to the Molifua family. $24,720.00 was raised at the benefit. Read More

I'm thrilled to be a part of the Prison Ministry at my church, Glad Tidings in Omaha, NE. We are one of many local churches who have adopted a cell block at the prison. Our team serves the cell block by bringing a worship service to them each Sunday, with worship, prayer, and a message. Some members of our team also lead a Bible Study for the inmates. I was really drawn to this ministry, because I wanted to take music and the message to those who really need to hear the gospel, and could benefit from sincere beautiful worship. I encourage everyone to look into serving with their gifts and blessing people in need. Blessings, Crystal

Miss America Working With Teddy Bears of Hope Foundation "I am absolutely thrilled to be working with "Teddy Bears of Hope" in their efforts to bring encouragement and support to the children of Haiti! Having been to Haiti and experienced firsthand all that the young children there go through, my life has been changed forever. Many could never even fathom the circumstances that individuals around the world find themselves in, but the good news is: we can do our part to change that! Through programs like "Teddy Bears of Hope," every person, no matter their age or background, can contribute to encouraging those less fortunate through simple acts of kindness. Simply giving a child a teddy bear with a message that lets them know "We care" can have an astounding impact. Each and every person has the ability to positively impact their world through their words and actions. It's time we step up and make a difference in our communities, country, and world!" ~ Teresa Scanlan, Miss America 2011 Teddy Bears of Hope |

LINDI JOHNSON
_Lindi Johnson was excited to donate her time and talent as a
vocalist performing for the 2012 Fifth Annual Hometown Talent Show in McCook Nebraska. Lindi
was one of twelve local artists, performing two Adele songs to
honor her favorite vocalist. Free will donations served as the cost
of admission for the show with all net proceeds going for the Fox renovation
project; the total raised was $2,600.00. As a performer, Lindi
understands the need for safe, community centered performance venues and
the Fox Theatre project is dear to her heart.
Lindi placed 1st in the Comets Division of the 2011 Galaxy of Stars Talent Search.
A little history about the Fox Theatre Renovation Project:
"The Alliance for the Encouragement of the Visual and Performing Arts (The Alliance EVPA) is a non-profit corporation that purchased the McCook, Nebraska Fox Theatre in 1988. In May of 2005, a group of community-minded citizens assumed control of the non-profit corporation with the intent to completely renovate/refurbish the theatre, while preserving its historical integrity, and then to give the completed project to the area citizens as their own Community Theatre. Dedicated to the renovation of the Fox Theatre and providing it to the public as a Community Theatre, the Alliance EVPA has made the facility available to Theatre Groups, The Community Concert Association, Storytelling Festivals, Church Concerts, School Movies, School Band Concerts and many other non-profit organizations."

DEANNA FLOE
“Singing is a passion and gift that came straight from the Lord,” says Deanna. In addition to her singing country music, she is also a part of a praise band on her campus for the weekly Campus Crusade for Christ meetings. Deanna feels God has provided her with so many opportunities in her life that the least she can do is give back a little of her time and abilities. This summer, Deanna put classes and performing aside to be part of a mission trip called the San Diego Summer Project. She is spending ten weeks living, working, serving, evangelizing, and growing in the Lord in San Diego, CA. “It is so important to me to give back what the Lord has given me. Whether this is through my singing, teaching Sunday school, leading a prayer group, speaking at high school gatherings or simply being loving to those around me, I could never repay the Lord for all the ways He has blessed me.”
Deanna is looking forward to again being a part of the 2011 Galaxy of Stars® Talent Search at the Nebraska State Fair Semi-Finals and Finals on September 3rd and 4th. She enjoys being a featured entertainer and assisting in whatever needs to be done to contribute to the Talent Search, and she very much enjoys being once again with many Galaxy of Stars® participants and friends from across Nebraska. KRISTINA CRAIG
Kristina is excited to be singing with a Church praise band at the Well Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where she has been a part of the band for almost two years, playing with what she considers to be some of the most talented musicians around. It has given to her the opportunity to go into the Murfreesboro Women’s Prison, along with a dear friend of hers, and provide them with worship music. The response, she said, is absolutely amazing, and she feels blessed to share with others what she so deeply feels and experiences. At the women’s prison, Kristina also sings one of her original songs, “Come Home,” co-written by Kristina, Frank Green and Wynne Adams. “Come Home” touches on a deep subject for Kristina. It was written for her sister who suffers from addiction. The lyrics are about a 19 year old girl leaving home for a better life and instead only finding her way to addictions, bad choices and losing faith. In the chorus of “Come Home” a question is asked about how far one can go with that sort of path before they listen to their conscience telling them to come home.
When Kristina is in Nebraska, she sings at halfway houses around the state for women recovering from addictions, such as drug and alcohol abuse, and she plans to sing at different women’s and children’s shelters as well. “God has been opening so many doors to do His work,” she said; “I am so thankful.” Kristina’s website

LEXI MOUL
Lexi enjoys using her gift of music to give back to her hometown, Ogallala, Nebraska, and to women all over the country. In her community, Lexi performs free concerts at special events, such as the Cancer Walk and the Rendezvous, an event which raises money for local businesses.
Lexi started singing at the age of 4 and by the age of 12 was given the opportunity to share her love of music with Mary Kay women around the United States. She likes being able to do this she said, "because it is a company that strives to not only help a woman's self esteem on the outside but also on the inside."
Lexi sings at the debuts of Mary Kay Sales Directors after they have reached this level in the company. She feels rewarded when she sings an inspirational song and sees tears well up in some of the women's eyes and feels it may contribute to motivating them even more to keep moving forward in a positive way. "I love the feeling it gives me and the feeling it gives them. My goal for my music is to touch women, young and old, to follow their dreams and believe with all their heart that they can come true, because if they believe anything is possible." Lexi's Website
Some of the songs Lexi sings: "Free To Be Me," "Anyway," "This Is My Now" and "Popular"
NEBRASKA SONGWRITERS Create a Way to Help the Special Olympics
Keith Grotrian rehearses "Everybody Wins," the title track from a CD of songs compiled as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics, alongside Brad Bray and Robert DeBusk, in Grotrian's home in Lincoln on January 9, 2010. (GWYNETH ROBERTS/Lincoln Journal Star)

It all started with a phone call made by Brad Bray the summer of 2009. How could the Nebraska NSAI Chapter help with the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games to be held July 18th – 23rd in Lincoln, Nebraska? 2010 Special Olympics - Nebraska
At the July 2009 “kickoff year countdown” gathering of the Special Olympics local chairman, volunteers and athletes in Lincoln a group of songwriters from the Nebraska NSAI Chapter were asked to perform. When several compilation CDs of the Nebraska NSAI Chapter were sold during the gathering, Robert DeBusk, Nebraska NSAI Chapter Chairman, suggested a CD be created to celebrate the Special Olympics athletes and games, with half of the proceeds to be donated to the Special Olympics. And a way to help was found!
The CD, "Everybody Wins," contains 17 original songs celebrating the Special Olympics athletes and games, written by 21 artists ranging in age from 10 - 80 years. About 400 CDs have already been sold and half of the proceeds go to help the Special Olympics. The CD can be purchased for $10.00 at the Nebraska NSAI Chapter website: Nebraska2Nashville.com.
The full story is posted in the Lincoln Journal Star January 16, 2010, written by Colleen Kenney, titled "LINCOLN SONGWRITERS MAKE CD FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS," which includes audio and video clips.
